IRIS WIENER - EDUCATOR
Writing has always been Iris' passion, and for the past twenty years she has been fortunate enough to be able to bring her love for it into the secondary classroom. As a high school English teacher on Long Island she has been able to share her drive for the arts with her students. Her artistic and creative abilities have been put to good use as the director of school musicals and the editor of school yearbooks. She has hosted and moderated artistic guest speaker events and helped her students partner with Kidsday and Long Island Herald Newspapers to contribute feature entertainment stories. As a Work-Based Learning Coordinator she has directed and curated experiences within ten CTE programs, including personal tours and interviews with the cast and puppeteers with Broadway’s Life of Pi; workshops with the dressers and stage managers at Broadway’s & Juliet; a guest speaker visit with designers and animators at Industrial Life & Magic; workshops with voice over artists; residencies with Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winning composers and actors; and job shadowing experiences on independent film shoots. She consistently builds strong relationships between teachers, staff, and students.
